Recipe

Cinnamon and fenugreek water

This is a two-minute routine with modest, real evidence behind it. It is worth doing and it is not a treatment, and we would rather say both.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp methi (fenugreek) seeds
  • 1 small piece of cinnamon bark, or ¼ tsp powder
  • 1 cup water
  • A squeeze of lemon, optional

Method

Step 1

Soak the methi seeds in a cup of water overnight, with the cinnamon bark in the same glass.

Step 2

In the morning, strain and drink the water at room temperature.

Step 3

The soaked seeds can be chewed or added to a sabzi rather than discarded.

Step 4

Add lemon if the taste is difficult. It does not affect what the preparation does.

If you take diabetes medication, mention this to your doctor. Fenugreek can add to a glucose-lowering effect.

Why it works

What the evidence supportsFenugreek has reasonable evidence for a modest effect on post-meal glucose. Cinnamon has weaker and less consistent evidence.
What it does not doIt does not lower HbA1c meaningfully on its own, it does not replace medication, and it will not offset a high-carbohydrate day.
Why it is still worth doingIt costs nothing, it is traditional, and small consistent things are easier to sustain than large ones.
