Recipe

Selenium and zinc seed mix

Selenium and zinc both matter for thyroid function and immune response, and both are commonly low. This is a spoon a day rather than a supplement.

Protein

2 g

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  • ¼ cup til (sesame)
  • 2 tbsp flaxseeds
  • 2–3 Brazil nuts, chopped small, optional

Method

Step 1

Dry roast each seed separately on low heat — they toast at different rates.

Step 2

Cool completely, then mix. Chop the Brazil nuts small if using.

Step 3

Store in the fridge in an airtight jar.

Step 4

Take one tablespoon a day, over curd, dal or a salad.

Do not exceed two to three Brazil nuts a day. Selenium toxicity is a real thing.

Why it works

Selenium for thyroidThe enzyme that converts T4 to the active T3 is selenium-dependent. Deficiency is common in parts of India.
Zinc from pumpkin seedsRelevant to immune function, skin repair and hair.
Why only two Brazil nutsThey are extremely high in selenium and it is genuinely possible to take too much. More is not better here.
