Recipe

Walnut and seed omega mix

Indian diets are generally high in omega-6 and low in omega-3. The ratio matters as much as the amount, which means adding this is only half the change.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup walnuts
  • ¼ cup ground flaxseed
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup almonds
  • A pinch of salt, optional

Method

Step 1

Lightly roast the walnuts and almonds. Do not brown them.

Step 2

Grind the flaxseed fresh — whole flax passes through undigested.

Step 3

Cool and combine everything. Store in the fridge in an airtight jar.

Step 4

Take one heaped tablespoon a day, or roughly five walnut halves plus a spoon of the seed mix.

Step 5

Alongside this, reduce refined oils high in omega-6. The ratio is what moves, not just the intake.

Plant omega-3 converts to the active forms inefficiently. If you eat fish, it remains the more direct source.

Why it works

The ratio, not the amountAdding omega-3 while omega-6 intake stays very high achieves less. Cutting back on refined seed oils is the other half.
Skin barrier and hairEssential fatty acids are structural in the skin barrier, which is why a shortfall shows first as dryness and brittle hair.
Refrigerated, ground freshThese fats oxidise quickly. A jar left on the counter for a month is not doing what you think.
